Hair Loss Treatment For Men: Hair Transplant As A Treatment For A Receding Hairline

One of the most feared things to happen to an individual or a man for that matter is to wake up one day and discover that his receding hairline has now become more obvious. Definitely, one would immediately look for a solution that will hopefully work, other than trying different hair styles or combing your hair forward, hoping no one will notice. A hair transplant could be a permanent solution to the problem – Am I a good candidate for hair transplantation?

The 411 on Receding Hairline

A receding hairline is an early warning sign of baldness or balding. There are two potential causes for it – genetics and time. While it is common in men to experience male pattern baldness as we age, genetic predisposition or even illnesses can also exacerbate the rate at which hair is lost.

A receding hairline starts to develop in men as they age, but it can also come on early for some guys. Usually, a receding hairline can start any time after the end of puberty. By the time most men reach their late 30s, they may already have a receding hairline. The shedding usually and insidiously starts above the temples. From there, the hairline moves back across the top of the head. This often leaves a ring of hair or horseshoe shape around the top of a bare scalp.

As mentioned earlier, a receding hairline is hereditary. Men who have a family history of baldness are more likely to lose their hair. It is triggered by an imbalance in male hormones, with the age at which it affects someone often similar from one generation to the next.

The Solutions to Consider

Treatments for the receding hairline are available. Among the treatments available today, hair transplant is known to deliver long-lasting results, and involves the transplanting of micro-scopic skin grafts & hair follicles, from the back of the head to areas where hairs have ceased to grow.

Today, hair transplant physicians are able to make use of different techniques to extract and transplant large numbers of hair follicles. They even developed a skilful way of suturing incisions and concealing scars to create more aesthetically pleasing results.

Choosing Between FUE or FUT Hair Transplant

There are two primary techniques for hair transplantation currently in use. They are the FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) and FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) methods. The FUT process, also known as Strip Harvesting, is the traditional technique which involves the removal of a small strip of scalp from the back of the head which contains the donor hair follicles. The hair grafts are harvested by our skilled surgeon, before they are individually transplanted into the recipient areas.

FUT typically allows more grafts to be transplanted in a single session compared to FUE. However, recovery takes a little longer, about two weeks and it comes with a fine permanent scar on the donor area.

In a Follicular Unit Extraction hair transplant or FUE harvesting, each follicular unit is individually taken directly from the scalp. Hair follicles are removed in a random fashion making any change less noticeable on the donor site. With no stitches required and no linear scar left to heal, FUE procedures do have a faster healing time and less post-procedure discomfort compared to the traditional FUT procedure.

Between these two treatments, the FUE method is becoming more popular. It is even considered as an industry leader when it comes to hair transplant. FUE is a highly technical and specialised technique and is proven to be the most effective, both in terms of results, minimal scarring, and recovery time.

FUE is an ideal choice if the patient’s primary goal is to be able to wear their hair very short or to return to more strenuous activity faster. This technique is also preferable when scalp laxity (looseness) does not permit a strip excision. The patient may sometimes choose FUE simply to avoid the stigma of a linear donor scar or a combination of the two can be performed, to reach your desired results.

A hair transplant is a procedure that demands precision and skill, art and expertise. It also requires a thorough assessment to ensure that you are a suitable candidate and that it will reach your desired outcome, to address your hair loss problem.
