Yes, beard transplants work and can make a significant improvement to your appearance!
Beards became popular in 2014 and it looks like they are here to stay with many men choosing to opt for the beard. And it’s not just the Hipster making the beard popular. These days office managers, tradies, barbers, professional footballers, actors, musicians can all be seen sporting a beard.
In addition to beards being fashionable, there are cultural and other reasons supporting beard popularity. Beards are viewed as symbols of courage, strength, youth, virility and good health.
However, what happens if you have a bald or patchy beard and you are desire fuller, thicker facial hair? Fear not. Beard transplants can help improve missing patches, add thickness to make the beard fuller or simply help with styling options.
Beard transplantation can be performed by Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) or Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT) depending on degree of donor hair available. Many prefer the FUE method, where hair follicles are taken from the back of your scalp one by one and relocated to the recipient area.
Your surgeon will advise on the best procedure for you and we encourage to do lots of reading before undertaking hair transplantation.
The procedure begins with full design consultation so you can achieve the look you want. The three main considerations are: the area requiring the hair or recipient area, the number of grafts that can be gained from the donor area and where is the best hair to suit the face.
There are two main parts to the procedure: graft extracting and the implementation of grafts to the recipient area. Donor hair will be taken from the area between the ears on the back of the scalp and will be implanted one by one by our experienced doctors. Beard hair growing directions are taken into consideration during the procedure for a successful natural looking result.
Beard transplant recovery is generally problem-free with little or no pain. Your recovery timeline depends on the type of surgery used, with FUE offering faster recovery times.
In general, most people return to work within a week of the procedure to make sure any side effects have passed. After one week, the transplanted area will look very natural. Recovery of donor area is fast, and your existing hair will cover this.
You should be able to shave again a week to 10 days after the transplant. After six months you will see new hair growing through, however the end result can take 12 months.
Remember, at your personalised consultation, you can seek a more accurate estimate of your recovering timeline along with activities to avoid after your beard transplant.
